Police forces progressively moved on using the new BAAC 2017 format over 2018.
In order to publish the 2018 Road Safety Report and 2018 data tables and files, ONISR transformed BAAC 2017 files back in the 2007 format in order to finalise the 2018 database in one single format.

Injury accidents were defined in the decree of 27 March 2007 on the conditions for compiling statistics. ONISR, in charge of the administration and dissemination of accident statistics under the terms of the Decree of 15 May 1975 on the CISR, has long specified the procedures for taking accidents into account.
A full guide for data reporting is available to police forces and local road safety observatories to ensure data consistency. A shorter version with examples is also available.For each injury road traffic accident, police forces register a number of items. These items relate to the location of the accident, the vehicles and users that were involved, drivers, passengers and pedestrians. An injury road traffic accident to be included in the national database BAAC is a road traffic accident in which at least one person is injured, involving at least a moving vehicle on a road open for traffic ; whatever the cause except for suicides or murders.
The ONISR manages the data base validation, a four level quality control system :
- Police forces register BAAC and send them to national data base Information System that is supervised by Cerema.
- The Cerema operates initial checks liaising with police forces focal point.
- Local Road Safety Observatories (ODSR) correct anomalies and consolidate the base in connection with road network operators and police forces (accidents reports).
- The ONISR supervises the processing of particular cases and double checks the data consistency with other services and sources, in particular quick reportings.
On June the 4th of 2013, some statistical indicators produced by the ONISR were certified by the French Authority of the Public Statistics.
Since 2007, the monthly results follow-up of the current year is made according to the prefectures quick reportings, in obedience to the last instruction of November, 9th of 2015. These data establish a provisional basic counting of injury accidents and estimate their seriousness. A factor of extrapolation laid out on the BAAC enables the ONISR to produce and publish a monthly barometer.
Since January 2017, the barometer has been presented in a new computer graphics that highlights the entry of monthly figures over 12 months. Based on a rolling year, the reality of the underlying trends in road accidents is more relevant than monthly data, which are by definition more cyclical. In addition, all key accident figures are presented in a concentric figure. It allows the shock wave produced by road accidents to be perceived at a single glance.
